The Gunmakers Company Charitable Trust (GCCT) entered two teams in the annual Holts Auctioneers charity shoot held on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk in early August, with the gracious permission of HM King Charles III.
A total of 46 teams of 4 guns shot over a range of testing targets laid out by Richard Clarke from the renowned Six-mile Bottom shoot. The shooting was followed by a fine 3-course lunch and auction of lots in the marquee. The Sandringham keepers, in their estate tweed, were on hand to help support the smooth running of the day.
The event this year was held to raise money for The Cambridge Children’s Hospital. In addition, to recognise the importance of the work of the Gunmakers Trust, Holts generously donated £5,000 to support the work of the Gunmakers Trust. Thank you.
To showcase and highlight the work of the Gunmakers Trust we were delighted that two of our apprentices, Henry Clews and Macie Gray, both employed by James Purdey and Sons Ltd were on hand to attend. Both Henry and Macie were able to showcase examples of their craft, and fix a few broken guns! and engage with the numerous interested individuals who visited the stand to hear about the support the Gunmakers Trust has given them both and to hear about their time as apprentices.
The two teams from the Gunmakers Trust included our Chairman James Horne, Daryl Greatrex, Rob Pitcher, Robin Curtis, John Browning, Peter Hiscocks, Francis Pearce, and Adam Anthony. The standard of shooting from some very well-drilled and seasoned competitors was high. Both of our teams shot well and finished in highly respectable positions.
