The Gunmakers Trust specimen carp fishing 2-day competition in Cambridgeshire the first weekend in September

For the third year running the annual Gunmakers Trust fishing match was held on the first weekend of September, enabling a small group of experienced fishermen to enjoy fishing at the privately fished, 70-acre picturesque lake set in 100-plus acres of wonderful Cambridgeshire countryside.

The support for this event continues to grow and is eagerly awaited by many of the regulars, some of them travelling down from as far away as Liverpool.

The draw for the pegs took place on Friday morning, with fishing commencing at 11 am. There was a real sense of eagerness from all the competitors to get their rods in the water and bait up their swims as soon as they could.

It was, however, quite a slow start for many, with only a handful of fish coming out on the Friday, but by 4pm on Saturday there had been a total of 22 fish caught.

On Saturday evening, the fish and chips supper took place with beer or two to wash them down.

All the anglers got together to share stories and discuss the one that got away and just how big it was! This as usual, was one of the highlights of the weekend with lots of laughter and making of new friends with a common interest. But as the daylight started to go there was a keenness to refocus on the job in hand and resume fishing as the weekend competition was entering the final stages.

Sunday morning soon rolled around, and at 10 am the match ended, time to look at the results and see what had been caught.

The first prize for the biggest fish caught was won by John McNally, a 27lb common at 1 am Sunday morning requiring him to wake his neighbour to witness the scales!

Second place for highest total weight caught went to Steve with a total of 128lb and third place to Jack with 68lb.

Another successful weekend and most importantly with the gift aid £3,750.00 raised for the Gunmakers Trust. We are immensely grateful to one of our kind trustees.
