Bursary Update – August 2022
We currently have 6 Bursaries underway with a seventh being processed. We are always looking for applicants, so if you have an apprentice which you consider suitable please click here, or alternatively contact the GCCT if you wish to discuss any aspects of the application criteria or process.
All apprentices are allocated a mentor who is appointed and trained by the trust. The mentors visit the apprentice at least once a year and speak with the apprentice once a quarter to find out how they are progressing. The employer is required to provide two reports a year to the Trustees giving an accurate appraisal of the apprentices’ progress.
An essential feature after the full bursary has been awarded and the apprentice has completed their training, is the certification process. This is a separate Certification Panel of the Livery Company, that is comprised of gunmaking and business experts that assess a submission work piece provided by the apprentice and their firm at the completion of their training. Should the piece that was submitted pass peer group assessment, the person under review is awarded a certificate.
This certificate provides the gunmaker with a qualification that formalises the completion of the apprenticeship.
Please don’t be shy about coming forward for consideration as we are keen to sponsor more apprentices.
