At the start of last month, we were very pleased to welcome Rachel Moir as the newest apprentice to be granted a four-year Bursary award by The Gunmakers Trust. Rachel, who will serve her apprenticeship at McKay Brown Gunmakers Ltd in Scotland, is ‘our’ first apprentice from this part of the UK and we are delighted to be working with a Scottish Gunmaking firm for the first time.

Rachel, who studied art at Glasgow University, found her passion in gunmaking when she started working on the bench with her father Robin Moir, who himself has 40 years of experience in the trade. By keeping detailed notes and intricate illustrations of the pieces she is working on, Rachel is already learning quickly and developing her skills as an actioner, lock maker and finisher. Rachel attended our recent Apprentice Training Day in London, and we send her our very best wishes for her apprenticeship and subsequent career in gunmaking.
