Hugh Douglas-Roberts is Co-Founder of Richard Roberts Ltd and DDR and Partners, strategic land promotion and planning consultancies based at Bowcliffe Hall in Yorkshire.
Hugh became a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers in 2021, following his father into the world of City livery companies. His father is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Coopers, and Hugh has developed a deep appreciation for the heritage, standards, and traditions that the livery movement represents. He is actively involved in the Gunmakers Trust through a desire to support Yorkshire gunsmiths and gunmakers, helping the trade to continue to adapt and encouraging new entrants into the profession.
Through his professional work, Hugh and his business partner work with landowning clients to provide strategic land promotion, long-term estate planning, planning consultancy, and development strategy. His work includes advising on complex property transactions, third-party rights, planning promotion agreements, and the provision of long-term strategic guidance through the planning and development system.
Hugh studied Law in Leeds and is accredited with both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
A keen shot, Hugh is most often found on a moor or hillside during the shooting season. He is also a passionate fly fisherman, usually on the spate streams of the Yorkshire Dales or on the great salmon rivers of Scotland. Through mentoring, Hugh is committed to supporting the continuation of British sporting and craft traditions, and to helping ensure the values of the gun trade endure for future generations.
