Francis became a Liveryman in 2016, having trained as an apprentice with the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers in the late 1970s. After completing his apprenticeship, held various roles within the gun trade building sporting rifles and participated in developing various sniper rifles.
Francis decided to undertake further study, gaining an Engineering Honours Degree and a Masters in Manufacturing Systems.
After graduation, he worked in different fields mostly in the pharmaceutical industry at one point managing over one hundred craft engineers and operators. He become a Chartered Engineer and holds certificates in mentoring, appraisal interviewing and professional development. He also gained a Diploma in Management.
He feels strongly that the gun trade in the UK should thrive, and that training of apprentices is integral to this. Looking back, he appreciates how beneficial mentors have been during his career.
He has never lost my passion for shooting and guns, having always kept a workshop. When time permits he carries out repairs, renovations and valuations, with a particular interest in hammer guns and rifles.
