David grew up on the family farm in rural Cambridgeshire. He left agricultural college with determination to make his own way in life, doing many different jobs all connected with rural life and agriculture.
Over the subsequent years, he recognised the need for diversification and created several businesses connected to the family farm, which resulted in him being awarded the Farmers Weekly Diversification Award 2010, and he continues to expand on this.
David is very passionate about the countryside, particularly conservation, and has over the years created new woodlands, planted many miles of hedgerows, re-established ponds and historic landscape features.
His love of shooting came from his father’s lifetime interest in shooting, English guns and gunmaking. From a young age, he was fortunate enough to visit many English gun makers and their workshops, witnessing their incredible skills and craftsmanship. This has led to his keenness to preserve these skills and support young apprentices through the GCCT.
Due to his background, David hopes to bring a very down-to-earth approach to his role as a trustee.
THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF GUNMAKERS
The Gunmakers Company Charitable Trust is the charitable arm of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers which was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1637 to promote and regulate gunmaking, a role it still fulfils today.
