Daryl Greatrex started his career at Holland & Holland, straight from college as an errand boy in 1979. Over the following 20 years, he was promoted first to cartridge clerk then through a series of sales roles, learning gunroom duties, handling exports, aspects of purchasing and firearms register procedures. He coordinated the introduction of the H&H Sporting and ‘Royal’ model Over-&-Under guns and assisted in the opening of Holland & Holland showrooms in Paris and New York, where he was seconded for a year. In 2000, he returned to New York as executive manager to run the gunroom and all shooting matters related to the USA, and again in 2004 when he was responsible for the relocation of the showroom to  10 East 40th Street.  He took up the appointment of managing director of the company on his return to London in 2004 leaving the company in 2019. 

He served as president of the Royal Warrant Holders Association (RWHA) in 2016-17.  Passionate about craftsmanship, he is also a strong supporter of the RWHA’s charity QEST, which grants scholarships and apprenticeships in over 130 crafts.

A member of the court of the Worshipful Company of gunmakers, he served as a Master from 2020-21 and is currently a member of several of the courts committee’s.

He was recently elected as a trustee of the Gunmakers Company Charitable trust and is a member of the trust’s Bursary mentor program.

THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF GUNMAKERS

The Gunmakers Company Charitable Trust is the charitable arm of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers which was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1637 to promote and regulate gunmaking, a role it still fulfils today.
