The Gunmakers Trust Apprentice Day / Workshop went ahead as planned on Friday, 19th September, led by Vice Chairman Francis Pearce and Trustee Peter Hiscocks.

Seven of our current apprentices attended the day, which was hosted at The Proof House in London.

Master Gunmaker Richard ( Dickie ) Bayley, Head Stocker of James Prudey and Sons and Matt White, owner and director of TR White and Sons, presented and led the practical workshops. Bill Blacker, Master Gunmaker and Chairman of the Certification Panel, also supported.  Additional help on the day was kindly provided by the Proof Master, David Miles, who gave a tour of The Proof House and also by the Clerk of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers, Andy Bignold.

The theme of the day was an “Introduction to Wood “. Our objectives included educating the apprentices in this traditional heritage skill in order to sustain this living craft for future generations. The day also developed a sense of community and collaboration between the apprentices and Master Craftsmen.

The feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive from all parties, and the Trust aims to run additional workshops on an annual basis.
